A very common respiratory problem is pneumonia. Pneumonia is an infection of one or both lungs. It is usually caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. Pneumonia affects the alveoli and causes problems with your respiration. About one third of people that develop pneumonia die from the infection. Pneumonia is the sixth leading cause of death in this country.
